The nerve. Senate Minority Leader (I like the sound of that) Mitch McConnell is threatening to filibuster any House vote that attempts to stop or criticize the President's escalation in Iraq.
Sounds like the freshmen Republican congressmen who implored Speaker Pelosi to treat the Republican minority better. Even though the Republican majority shut the Democratic minority out of any real participation in passing legislation in the House.
The hypocrisy of the Republicans in Washington knows no bounds.
You wouldn't be surprised to find that as Majority Whip McConnell was rounding up votes to change Senate rules so Democrats could not filibuster Bush's judicial nominees, would you?
Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell said yesterday that Republicans have enough votes to invoke the "nuclear option" to limit Democrats' ability to stall by filibuster consideration of President Bush's nominees for federal appeals courts.
"I never announce my whip count. But I'm telling you, there's no doubt in my mind -- and I'm a pretty good counter of votes -- that we have the votes we need," the Kentucky Republican said. "And that step will be taken sometime in the near future at the determination of the majority leader."
Want more Republican hypocrisy on the filibuster? Think Progresspoints to a gleeful Fred Barnes describing McConnell as a "great master of the filibuster." And of course Barnes said of Democratic efforts to filibuster, "stronger countermeasures will be needed, including...curbs on filibusters."
Geez. It sure gets tiresome documenting the layers upon layers of GOP hypocrisy.
